The list below gives you an idea of just what I was thinking while recording each song. Thank You, Wolfs Robe

1) Sky Dancer- Living in Arizona, one of my favorite places is The Grand Canyon National Park and while I am there one of my greatest enjoyments is to watch the Ravens do their aerobatics over the Canyon. I use the Jimbe drum from Africa and a Traditional gourd rattle in a erythematic style to represent the up and down and swirling dance of the Ravens. In the recording studio I use a ping pong delay on the rattles to give it that “from one speaker to the next” feel.

2) Solo Flight-This is the title track and is pretty much a solo flute track other than the Hawk Cry in the beginning. I love the sound of the solo flute so crisp and clean. I have always been drawn to birds of Prey especially the Harris Hawk witch you will see pictures of within the album art, so this is why I added the sound of a hawk. I see this CD as my own Solo Flight because the idea of it was not pre determined by my Culture alone and was my own likes and ideas so that’s why I named it “Solo Flight”.

3) Spirits of Mystic Canyon- I live in Northern Arizona where the Ancestral Pueblos lived, and I have hiked into many of these canyons here. I have seen many ruins way off the beaten path and sometimes you can hear the sounds of their departed Ghosts in the wind that blows through these Canyons.

4)
Ancestral Journey- This is my song to honor our Ancestors, using the fourth flute I ever made it carries the essence of my Teacher. The flute is a traditionally tuned flute and is not in a Western scale, so much of our Culture has been stolen, forced, converted or just scared out of us and we need to re gain it back and this is my way of honoring our past and the Ancestors.

5)
Rain Bringer- Some stories say that the flute player brought the rain, well in “Rain Bringer” I imagined being beside a lake at the edge of a wooded area, and we hear the sound of the rain stick and then the flute. Slowly we hear Nature come to life Crows and other birds frogs,,,,and slowly we start to hear the rain ,it grows heavier and finally a distant thunder rolls aaaahhhhhh “ rain Bringer”.

6)
Red Earth Paint- I had a dream one night; I seen what would appear to me like a preparation for a Ceremony though I am not sure what kind. In a faintly lit area I see people mixing Red Ocher paint “Red Earth Paint” there is a man sitting in front of a small fire and the people start painting him with this paint. The drums and deer toe rattles create this melodic rhythm like a Heartbeat pounding and the People begin to dance following the man with the “Red earth Paint”.

7) Memo's Song- My Brother Bill Leyden aka (Memo), well he has this unique style with these fades that well sorda squeak as he fades the note out, I Love it,,,in fact it is so inspiring that I had to give it a shot. I hope I honored you well my brother?.

8)
Keep Going- When I was deep in thought one day sitting at my computer/recording studio I put the final thoughts in place on this one. I pictured our People during our forced removal times ,and some of them were stopping or just giving up when a medicine man tapping his drum on the side with a stick started singing a sacred song and this song gave the people the strength and power to “Keep Going” I didn’t have a name for it at first but as I looked up at some of my CD’s I seen one of my favorite books on CD Keep Going by Joseph M. Marshall III , This CD/Book has gotten me through some very hard times and I am thankful for it and Joseph , so I thought it fitting when I looked up and that was the first thing my eyes focused on that I name this song “Keep Going”.

9)
Shadows- This is my musical interpretation of shadows being cast upon the ground. The F# drone flute seemed the perfect tool to pull this off. The solo F# is the solid figure maybe a person, bird or many other figures and the drone is the “Shadows”.

10)
The man from Orabi- Orabi is one of the Hopi villages in Northern Arizona and over the years I have grown fond of the Hopi People. I just imagined sitting atop a ledge overlooking a shallow canyon and at the bottom of this Canyon is a trail. There is an older Hopi man walking this trail and he probably walks it almost every day, this man is happy with his place in the World so he walks whistling his happiness.

11)
The Path of least Resistance- The idea on “The Path of least Resistance” was to go from a bass flute such as the E flat and move slowly to a higher pitch flute like the A minor. I am trying to get across the feeling of starting out like struggling with the bass flute and slowly freeing ourselves to “The path of Least Resistance” with the A minor. Hope you get the same feeling.

12) The Vision- This is my own artistic vision of a “Vision Quest” if you look at the back of the CD faded behind the track list you see a man sitting in a rocky area with his Buffalo skull and his Eagle wing fan praying to Creator and asking for a vision. This is my favorite song on this CD and I hope you enjoy it.

13)
Raptor- Other than the Wolf birds of prey (raptors) are so amazing, they just seem to soar effortlessly sometimes we call them our winged brothers and sisters. My favorite raptor is the Harris Hawk whose likeness you will see many times within the CD art work; this is my way of honoring the “Raptor”.

14)
Traditional Way- This track is recorded using one of my Traditional Wolf Clan flutes, and is played in more the old way, the way I was taught.

15)
The Last Buffalo- The slow drumbeat echo’s the hoof beats of the “Last Buffalo” . There are storeys among many of our nations about the last wild heard of buffalo, so I wanted to honor those storeys. I introduced also the harmonica to represent the White settlers who are seen as one of the main causes of the disappearance of the Buffalo. The Harmonica is also seen as an instrument of the Wild West it was an easily carried item. The tambourine is used to mimic our dancer’s dance bells they wear around their ankles, our people are dancing for “The Last Buffalo” as they make their escape to a safer place to one day return.

16)
Indidge- Indidge was a treat I have always wanted to hear the Didgeridoo and the Native American flute together. Seen now as the voice of the Australian Aboriginal People the sound of the Didge has always called to me same as our own native flutes and both mixed with the mouth harp is just awing. I hope I honored both our peoples with “Indidge”
